Bears Earn 3-1 Win at UMass Dartmouth

September 30, 2025

Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH - A balanced attack with three different goal scorers powered the Smith College field hockey team to a 3-1 win at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday evening. The Bears improve to 6-4 on the year, while the Corsairs are now 1-9.

First Half Highlights
  • Smith's Iseul Park (Ann Arbor, MI/) made a crucial save against an early shot from Mass.-Dartmouth's Brooke Lydon before Mass.-Dartmouth quickly responded with a goal by Arlene Johnson, assisted by Sam King and Amelia Keeler, putting them on the scoreboard first.
  • The Bears answered back at the 9:52 mark when Halie Yung (San Jose, CA/Lynbrook) netted an equalizer, leveling the score at 1-1.
  • Smith capitalized on a persistent offensive push in the second quarter, with Anouk Bosket (Jordanstown, Northern Ireland/Belfast Royal Academy) scoring at the 28:34 mark after an intense sequence of penalty corners led by Callahan Day (Shady Side, MD/Elizabeth Seton). The goal was the result of sustained pressure, following a series of shots that tested the Corsairs goalkeeper. Earlier in the quarter, Ellie Szostalo (Gorham, ME/Gorham) made a key defensive save against Lydon, maintaining Smith's advantage. The quarter concluded with Smith leading 2-1.
Second Half Highlights
  • Annika Peterson (Forest Hill, MD/North Harford) initiated the offensive efforts with an early shot at 31:13, which was saved by Cueman. Smith continued to apply pressure with Day executing multiple penalty corners, leading to several shot attempts by Szostalo and Day, all saved by Cueman. Despite a strong defensive stand from Mass.-Dartmouth's goalkeeper, the Bears maintained control of the pace throughout the quarter. Peterson and Day both had significant opportunities, but neither could convert. The quarter concluded with Smith holding its 2-1 advantage, as both teams were unable to add to the scoreboard.
  • Smith began the fourth quarter with a strong offensive push, as Lucia Kim (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) netted a goal just 27 seconds into play, assisted by Yung, extending Smith's lead to 3-1. Smith maintained pressure with multiple shots on goal, including efforts by Bosket and Sam Sparling (Croton on Hudson, NY/Croton Harmon), but were thwarted by Mass.-Dartmouth's goalie Cueman, who made several key saves.
Game Notes
  • Smith is now 2-0 all-time against the Corsairs
  • Park made three saves in the victory
  • Her counterpart Cueman stopped 17 shots
