Smith Swim and Dive Record Historic Win Over Springfield

January 24, 2026

NORTHAMPTON - Jessie Wang (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) won three events and Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, MN/Saint Paul Academy) swept both boards as the Smith swim & dive team split their tri-meet with Wellesley and Springfield Saturday at Dalton Pool. Smith's victory over Springfield was the first win over the Pride dating back to the 1986 season. The Bears won four individual events and Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, MN/Saint Paul Academy) swept both boards. Prior to the meet, Smith honored its five seniors: Abby Caputo, Cady Dorrian (Jacksonville, FL/Douglas Anderson School of the Arts), Grace Magee (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal), Molly Seneker (Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island), and Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, MN/Saint Paul Academy).

"This was the type of energy and meet this class deserved at Dalton Pool. They have endured so much to get to this point and they have done so representing the very best of Smith College. Their poise, leadership, and love for their teammates was critical to this meet's success and has been critical for this season's success." -- Head coach Caleb Potvin

"While we came up just short against Wellesley, the historic victory over Springfield deserves to be celebrated. I told the team after the meet that I really felt this was our best meet of the season. They balanced intensity with focus, excitement with control, and they were relentless in their efforts throughout the meet. I am excited to see how this catapults toward a strong finish to the season. I also want to thank all of our incredible families, friends, Smith community members, and all who came to support the seniors and our team tonight. It was amazing to see Dalton packed!" - Head Coach Caleb Potvin
