NORTHAMPTON, MA - Smith Tennis (3-5) fell to Babson College (4-3) with a final score of 2-5 on Friday at the Smith Tennis Courts. Smith Tennis secured singles victories at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions.
Smith Tennis dropped the doubles point to Babson College after the visiting team secured victories on two courts. At No. 1 doubles, Babson's Matia Cristiani and Sandra Sikharulidze defeated
Ava Emrich (Smyrna, Delaware/Tower Hill School) and
Heidi Cambron (Sherbrooke, Canada/Champlain College Lennoxville), 6-3, while Manuela Moscoso and Mia Sorrentino clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over
Olivia Chin (Bayside, NY/Dominican Academy) and
Emily Wang (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) at No. 3 doubles. The Bears earned a win at No. 2 doubles, where
Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and
Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) posted a 6-4 victory over Elizabeth Shu and Alessandra Cristiani.
In singles play, Cristiani extended Babson's lead with a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, defeating Hauser, 6-3, 6-0. Shu followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Emrich at No. 2 singles to further Babson's advantage. The Bears responded at No. 6 singles, where Chin secured a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win against Dana Kamal, narrowing the score to 3-1 in favor of Babson.
Babson secured the dual match victory when Alessandra Cristiani triumphed over Simunyola, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4 singles. The Bears added another point with Cambron's hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 win against Tina Liu at No. 3 singles, but it was not enough to turn the tide. Babson's Jolie Wang closed the match with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 result over
Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School) at No. 5 singles, sealing a 5-2 win for Babson College.
