NORTHAMPTON - Smith College rowing head coach Meg Conan announced the addition of Rose Carr as an assistant coach for the program heading into the 2026-27 campaign. Carr, who will puruse a master's degree in exercise and sport studies, brings extensive coaching experience at the collegiate and junior levels, along with a distinguished background as a competitive rower.
"We are incredibly excited to welcome Rose Carr to our coaching staff," said Conan. "Her passion for the sport, combined with her previous coaching experience at both the collegiate and junior levels, makes her a great fit for our boathouse. Rose possesses a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest levels of rowing, having earned a World Championship bronze medal with the U.S. Junior National Team and competed as Division I student-athlete at Ohio State. She brings a strong work ethic, a team-first attitude, and a belief in the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity college athletics provides for our student-athletes to develop into the people they want to be. I look forward to working together to help our student-athletes reach their full potential both on the water and in the classroom and to pursue competitive excellence as a team."
Carr most recently served as an assistant coach with Cooper Junior Rowing Club, where she helped guide the program to multiple podium finishes at major competitions, including a silver medal in the Men's Youth 2 and a bronze medal in the Women's U17 at the USRowing Youth national Championships. Previously, Carr served as an assistant coach with Naval Academy Women's Rowing, where she helped develop the program's athletes and contributed to a successful 2025 season. She coached the 2nd Varsity 8+ to a silver medal at the 2025 Patriot League Championships, while also assisting with training-plan development and novice-athlete development.
Carr also spent the 2023-24 season as a Volunteer Assistant Coach with University of Pennsylvania Men's Lightweight Rowing, helping the Lightweight Varsity 4+ earn a bronze medal at the 2024 IRA National Championships. The program also finished as the 2024 IRA National Championships runner-up and won the EARC Sprints Jope Cup team points title.
A former Division I rower at Ohio State University, Carr earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Ecology with a focus in Sports Industry in 2021. During her collegiate career, she competed at the 2018 NCAA Championships, finishing sixth overall, and was part of Ohio State's 2018 Big Ten championship team. Carr's competitive experience extends to the international level. A three-time U19 National Team rower, she represented the United States at three U19 World Championships, including earning a bronze medal in the 2017 Women's 4-. She was also a two-time champion on the USRowing Youth National Women's team.
