NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — The Smith College cross country team swept the first six places and scored a perfect 15 points to win the Ellen O'Neil Invitational on Saturday at its home course, which will host the NEWMAC Championship on Oct. 31.

Smith covered the 6K in a team total of 2:01:43 for a 24:20 average, finishing 40 points clear of runner-up Babson. Springfield took third with 71 points and Albany College of Pharmacy placed fourth with 105. Clark (Mass.) and Hudson Valley CC did not post team scores.

Lucy Kreipke (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) led the Bears from the front, winning the individual title in 23:27.4 at a 6:17.5 mile pace. Avery Maiese followed in second at 23:46.2, and Catherine Collins (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) took third in 24:40.9.

Hadley Smith (North Yarmouth, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) crossed a tenth of a second behind Collins to place fourth in 24:41.0, and Sofia Jurusz (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Middle Township) rounded out the scoring in fifth at 25:07.7. The Bears' top five finished within 1:40 of one another.

The Bears return to action Saturday, Oct. 3 at the KSC Invitational in Keene, N.H.
