Box Score NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College field hockey team used a balanced attack to shut down Salve Regina , 5-0, in NEWMAC action Friday evening. The Bears improve to 4-5 on the year with a 2-0 mark in league play. The Seahawks drop to 5-3 and 0-2 in the NEWMAC. Scoring their first career goals for Smith were Malia Lockhart (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and Grace Webb (Asheville, NC/Asheville). 

Game Highlights

• Megan O'Connor (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth Abbey School) put the Bears in front 30 seconds into the first quarter, scoring off an assist from Anouk Bosket (Jordanstown, Northern Ireland/Belfast Royal Academy) for a 1-0 advantage
• The Bears continued to generate chances later in the quarter, earning a penalty corner through O'Connor at 9:25. Sam Sparling (Croton on Hudson, NY/Croton Harmon) and Bosket followed with shots on goal in a 16-second span, but Salve Regina goalkeeper Siany Ortez saved both attempts
• The Bears spent much of the second quarter in the attacking end, putting seven shots on goal and earning three penalty corners, but Salve Regina goalkeeper Siany Ortez saved each attempt.
• Molly van Brunschot (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Dalton Spinoza Kyceum) scored 35 seconds into the third quarter to put the Bears ahead 2-0, starting a three-goal quarter for the home side
• Martinez finished off a Bosket assist at 37:45, and Grace Webb (Asheville, NC/Asheville) added another goal less than two minutes later off a feed from van Brunschot. 
• Malia Lockhart (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) scored off Maya Zager's (Portland, ME/Deering) assist at 47:49, converting the Bears' first penalty corner of the fourth quarter and moving the score to 5-0.

By the Numbers

• Smith held a 24-2 advantage in shots and 10-2 edge in corners
• Iseul Park (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) made one save for her second shutout of the year
