NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College field hockey team suffered a 3-1 setback to Westfield State in the championship game of the Caryl Newhof Classic Sunday afternoon.
Junior
Isabel Johnson (Fort Worth, TX/Trinity Valley School) and sophomore
Nyla Flamer (Trenton, NJ/Stuart Country Day School) from Smith (1-2) were named to the Jackie Blei All-Tournament Team. Westfield State senior back Lee Gould was named the tournament's MVP, while Jocelyn Frein and Caroline Andrade earned all-tournament honors as the Owls improved to 4-0 on the year.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Westfield struck first when Alyssa Reynolds took a pass from Andrade for the 1-0 lead
- Smith responded in the 10th minute when Halie Yung (San Jose, CA/Lynbrook) evened the score
- The second and third period were scoreless before Caroline Andrade and Eliana Kaplan found the back of the net in the final period for the win
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Owls held a 15-9 edge in shots and 6-4 advantage in penalty corners
- Sith keeper Iseul Park (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) made eight saves
