ITHACA, NY - Sophomore goalkeeper
Blair Pasarkar (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) recorded a career-high 14 saves, but the Smith College soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Ithaca on Sunday afternoon. The Bears dip to 0-2-1 on the year, while the Bombers improve to 3-0-0.
"It was a tough loss against a strong Ithaca team," said head coach
Kathy Brawn. "We had some bright moments, but they were too few and far between to have a significant impact on the outcome of the match. The standout play of goalkeepers Blair, Cat, and Riley have kept us in striking distance in each of our three games to date. We'll build on the many positives as we prepare for the games ahead."
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Ithaca got on the board early, as Jayne Bogle battled in the corner before sending a cross in front of the goal. Pasarkar was able to get a hand on it, but Sophie White cleaned it up with a low shot to the right to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead
- Ithaca added two second half goals by Bogle and Lilyana Baldi
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Ithaca held a commanding 34-3 advantage in shots and 6-1 edge in corners
- Pasarkar, who was making just her second career start, turned away 14 shots and was replaced by Riley Cioffi-Smith (North Branford, CT/Cheshire Academy), followed by Catalina Mozzo (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull)
- Charli Kellaway (Newport, VT/North Country Union) and Helena prusak eached put a shot on goal for the Bears
