Technology
At Smith College, we have the luxury of having some of the most cutting edge technology in performance training. We use an online platform called Teambuildr to administer and distribute training programs to our student athletes. This platform also has an app where athletes can access their training at any point and anywhere. The platform is complete with technique videos, training tracking, and messaging functions to communicate with coaches.Â
We also currently use First Beat heart rate monitoring technology that can track a team of athlete's heart rate in real time. This benefit not only allows us to see how each individual is responding to training but it will give us a "Training Load" for a session. A Training Load is a numeric value of how taxing a lift, conditioning session, practice, or game was to an individual athlete on a physiological level. With this information, we can make key decisions on how to adapt training to an athlete or team's cumulative fatigue level or physiological needs.
In addition, we have Tendo Units, a bar velocity tracking piece of technology, and OVR velocity Units at our disposal. Knowing the velocity of a movement can be crucial to adapting to an athlete on any individual day depending on their fatigue state on any given day or training goal.
