Amy Assad begins her second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Smith College softball program during the 2020-21 season. While assisting head coach Emily Lopez, she will also be pursuing a Master's Degree of Science in Exercise & Sport Studies.Â
Assad graduated from Nichols College in May 2019 with a degree in sport management and marketing. Prior to transferring to Nichols College, Assad spent her first semester as an intended Spanish education major at Rhode Island College.
At Nichols College, Assad's basketball career blossomed. She earned the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week (2016), Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Honor Roll (2017, 2018) and Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week (2018). During her first year at Nichols, Assad also played softball and returned to the team the following year as a student assistant coach. After her basketball and softball careers got cut short due to injuries, Assad joined the women’s track and field team in her final semester at Nichols and competed in both javelin and shot put.
Assad was given many opportunities through her institution that included interning with the athletic training room, as well as working as a ticket sales and marketing intern for the Future Collegiate Baseball League’s Worcester Bravehearts. In her final year at Nichols, she was offered a position as a communications assistant for the Sport Management Department. In this role, she created an institutional webpage that posted new internships, part-time, full-time, and graduate assistant opportunities from around the country directed at sport management students.
