Laura Campuzano

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Campuzano enters her second year as a volunteer coach with the Smith College swimming and diving team.

Philosophy
Swimming is a lifelong journey that continues to challenge and inspire. It is the joy of swimming that drives athletes through tough sets and helps overcome obstacles both in and out of the pool. Learning, in this sport, comes in many forms. It’s not just about getting faster—though that’s part of it. It’s about understanding the science behind training and recovery, mastering the details of stroke technique, building mental toughness, and becoming a better communicator and teammate. Every practice and every race is a chance to grow—not just as a swimmer, but as a person. When joy and curiosity lead the way, improvement will follow. Swimming teaches that excellence is not a destination, but a mindset—a commitment to showing up, working hard, supporting others, and never losing sight of the love for the sport.

Experience
Coach Laura enters her second year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bears. A highlight from the 2024-2025 season was the team setting a new school record in the 400 freestyle relay on the final night of the NEWMAC championship. As a swimmer, Campuzano represented the US National Team in Hawaii, the Netherlands, France, and Japan and was world ranked in 200, 400, 800, and 1500 meter freestyle.

Personal
Coach Laura was a distance swimmer on the US National Team. She loves a good rubber duck and is adamant that Calvin and Hobbes is the best comic strip!
