Gregor Makes Nine Saves In Loss To Wellesley

October 16, 2010

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Two goals three minutes apart lifted Wellesley College to a 3-0 win over Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference soccer action on Saturday. Wellesley improves to 7-6-1, 4-1-1 in NEWMAC play, while Smith falls to 2-9-1, 0-5-1 NEWMAC.

Playing in blustery wind conditions, the Blue took the lead just eight minutes into the game.  Kara Lungmus' cross was knocked down by Chelsea Ann-Patry onto the feet of Lena Cardoso, who fired past Smith goalkeeper Lindsey Gregor (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast).  Wellesley doubled the lead three minutes later, when Megan Turchi looped a shot from 20 yards out past the outstretched arms of Gregor.

Gregor made nine saves in net for Smith, none of which was bigger than when she snuffed out Patry on a 1-on-1 attempt midway through the second half.

Patry added a third goal for Wellesley nine minutes from time.

Smith will host the US Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday, October 19, at 4 p.m.  Wellesley will welcome MIT, also on October 19.
