Gregor Makes 10 Saves But Springfield Squeaks Past Smith

October 06, 2010

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Jackie Moscardelli scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute to lift the Springfield College women's soccer team past visiting Smith College, 1-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Tuesday evening.

The win brings Springfield to 7-4 on the season, including a 3-1 record in conference play. Smith falls to 1-7-1, 0-3-1.

Lindsey Gregor totaled 10 saves in 90 minutes of action. Her counterpart, Erin Greenstein was not tested as she earned the shutout victory in goal. Springfield had a pair of quality chances in the first half, but Suzanne Silva and Erica Donnelly each had their shots just miss the back of the net as they clanged off the post.

Moscardelli finally broke through for Springfield at the 65:59 mark as she carried the ball into the 18-yard box and powered a tremendous shot into the left corner for the game's only marker.

Smith will host Clark on Friday, October 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Pride return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when it travels for a conference game at WPI.
