Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--The United States Coast Guard Academy scored in the 72nd minute to hand Smith College a 1-0 defeat in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Tuesday night.  The loss drops Smith to 2-10 overall, and 1-6 in the NEWMAC, while Coast Guard improves to 5-7-1, and 1-5-1 in NEWMAC play.

Shannah Shelton broke the deadlock with 18 minutes to go, curling a perfectly placed shot over the outstretched hands of Smith goalie Lindsey Gregor (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast) from 20 yards out. 

Smith turned up the pressure in the second half, and had their best chance to equalise with 10 minutes left in the half, but Dalyn Houser (Atlanta, Ga./Galloway) stabbed her attempt wide of the right post.

Gregor made 10 saves for Smith - her fifth game of the year with double-figure saves. 

The Pioneers will return home after three consecutive games on the road, when they host Wheaton College in a NEWMAC matchup on Saturday, October 22.
