Box Score 2 NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College volleyball team snapped an eight match losing skid with a pair of wins on the second day of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament on Saturday afternoon. After taking a 3-2 decision from Bridgewater State (25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-12), the Pioneers made it a double with a 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-23) win over Westfield State University.
Smith ups their record to 9-15, tripling their win total from a season ago. It was the first win for Smith since a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke on October 8.
Courtney Faria (Pocasset, Mass./Bourne) was named to the All-Tournament team.
In the opener, Smith never trailed, and took a five set thriller by winning the final set 15-12.
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) had 19 kills, eight digs, and two service aces, and
Courtney Faria (Pocasset, Mass./Bourne) had 17 assists and 13 digs. Beth Ashworth had 17 digs, and
Hayley Bezubka (N. Kingstown, R.I./N. Kingstown) had 15 assists and three service aces, to go with eight digs.
In the second game, the Pioneers never dropped a set in a 3-0 win.
Blair Bell (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberly) pouring 12 kills against just one error, and added eight digs for good measure. Bezubka had 16 assists and six digs, and Drummond had 11 kills and eight digs.
Smith will get back to NEWMAC play when they host Clark University on Tuesday, October 25 at 7 p.m. Bridgewater State and Westfield State will play each other on October 26 at 7 p.m.
