Game Preview: Volleyball vs. Clark

October 25, 2011

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The curtain closes on the home schedule for the Smith College volleyball team (9-15, 1-6 NEWMAC) when they host Clark University (9-14, 3-4 NEWMAC) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.  It also marks the final home game for Smith's lone senior, Courtney Faria (Pocasset, Mass./Bourne).

Last Meeting: Smith fell to the Cougars 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 16-25, 20-25) in Worcester on October 26, 2010.

Last Smith Win: The Pioneers dealt Clark a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17) defeat on September 22, 2009.

Smith Overview: Smith snapped an eight match losing skid with a pair of wins at the 20th annual Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on October 22.  After winning a five set match against Bridgewater State, Smith made quick work of Westfield State University.

Clark Overview: The Cougars split a tri-match with Keene State College and UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, getting swept by the Owls before earning a 3-2 win over the Corsairs in the second match.  Today's match still has playoff implications for the Cougars, who sit in the sixth and final spot with two games to go.

Smith Player to Watch: Faria - playing in her final game in Ainsworth Gymnasium, the senior comes in with 97 assists in her last seven matches, going over the 20 assist mark twice.

Clark Player to Watch: Senior Amira Trachell has a team high 195 kills, hitting .226 for the year.

Did you know? A win tonight would give Smith double-digit victories for the first time since the 2008 season.
