NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College volleyball team (9-16) will take on Amherst College (17-6) in their second-to-last game of the season on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. It's the final non-conference game of the year for both teams.
Last Meeting: The Pioneers fell to Amherst
3-0 (7-25, 13-25, 10-25) on October 27, 2010.
Last Smith Win: Smith improved to 11-2 with a
3-1 (26-30, 30-22, 30-19, 30-27) win over Amherst on September 28, 2005.
Smith Overview: Smith is coming off a tough 3-2 defeat to NEWMAC foe Clark University on Tuesday night. The Pioneers battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set, but the Cougars took an early 5-1 lead in the final stanza and never looked back, winning 15-9.
Amherst Overview: The Lord Jeffs have won six of their last eight, with the only losses being to No. 25 Bowdoin and Wellesley, who received
votes in the latest national poll. In the crowded NESCAC, Amherst sits in seventh place with a record of 4-4 in league play.
Smith Player to Watch: Despite the outcome against Clark,
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) was outstanding, totalled 22 kills and hitting .341.
Amherst Player to Watch: Cassie Neilson has racked up 769 assists, or 9.15 per contest.
