NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team (4-11) gets their final non-conference game of the year underway when they play at Keene State College (14-4) on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
Last Meeting: The Owls earned a
3-0 win over Smith on October 28, 2010.
Last Smith Win: Smith improved to 2-0 on the year with a 3-0 win over Keene State on September 13, 1997.
Smith Overview: Smith suffered a 4-2 defeat to Wheaton College in their most recent game, eliminating them from contention for a NEWMAC tournament berth. A win today would snap a three game losing streak for the Pioneers.
Keene State Overview: The Owls defeated UMass-Dartmouth 3-2 in their last contest, clinching a share of the Little East regular season title and homefield advantage through out the conference tournament. Three of KSC's four
losses are to nationally ranked schools, including No. 8 Middlebury, No. 15 Christopher Newport, and No. 16 Trinity (Conn.).
Smith Player to Watch: Ashleigh King (Enfield, N.H./Mascoma) - playing in her home state of New Hampshire, King has started every game along the backline for the Pioneers.
Keene State Player to Watch: Caitlin Davino-Draper has started all 18 games in goal for the Owls, allowing only 20 goals in 18 games.
Did you know? Wins in their final two games (today against Keene State, Saturday vs. WPI), would give the Pioneers the most wins since the 2008 season.
