NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team (0-4, 0-4 NEWMAC) will take on local rival Springfield College (2-4, 1-3 NEWMAC) in a NEWMAC league matchup on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
Last Meeting: April 2, 2011 - Smith edged out the Pride 5-3 in spring play. Smith won two doubles matches and three singles to grab the win.
Eunice Zhao (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) and
Julia Signell (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth Academy) beat Kristi Maltz and Sarah Morgan 8-2 at No. 3 doubles, and
Nawal Mays (Niskayuna, N.Y./Emma Willard) and
Meghan Smith (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) earned an 8-2 win over Siana Green and Erin Woodbury at at No. 2 doubles.
Grace McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass./La Salle Academy) overcame a 1-0 deficit to win in three sets at No. 6 singles, while
Rachel Canfora (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) and Ally Hawkins also posted victories.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers come into today's match after sending four members of the squad to compete in the ITA Retional at Bates College last Friday. The doubles tandem of
Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville So.) and
Clair Oblamski (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) advanced to the second round of the tournament.
Springfield Overview: The Pride snapped a four game losing skid by picking up their first win of the season with a 5-0 win over Clark University on September 27 in NEWMAC play.
