Alayna Liptak (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) scored her third goal of the season off a pass from
Sofia Nakhnikian-Weintraub (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) to make it a 2-1 contest with 18:07 to go.
That would be as close as Smith (2-6) would get, as the Golden Bears (6-3) reeled off five straight goals before
MK Pasini (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) ended the run with a marker with 4:20 left in the first half.
Leading 8-2 at halftime, WNEC scored the first seven goals of the second half to open up a 15-2 lead.
Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes) got Smith's last goal with an unassisted tally with 4:54 to play.
Meredith Kallfelz made 10 saves in net for Smith, while Marissa Bonitatibus and Erin Doherty split time in goal for Western New England.
Smith will look to snap three game losing skid when they host Wheaton College in a return to NEWMAC play on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m. WNEC will be home to Anna Maria on Saturday at 1 p.m.
