Smith Lacrosse Downed By Babson

Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Babson College women's lacrosse team scored 11 first half goals on their way to a 17-2 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win over visiting Smith College on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field. The win snaps a four game losing streak for the Beavers and improves their record to 4-7 on the season and 1-1 in NEWMAC play. Smith dips to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC.

Both of Smith's goals came from junior Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes). Junior attacker Sofia Nakhnikian-Weintraub (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) added an assist on Fileti's first goal. Fileti also picked up a team high three draw controls. Sophomore Meredith Kallfelz went the distance in net making nine total saves and picking up a team high three groundballs.
 
Along with Ayssa Hood's seven points, first-year Morgan Lockwood added two goals and two assists while sophomore Jamie Spang, junior Trisha Babson and senior captain Ellen McCurdy each chipped in with two goals apiece. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Macary played just over 52 minutes in net making four total saves while first-year Julie Baharestani finished out the final minutes making one save.
 
Hood got the scoring started just 24 seconds in when she scored an unassisted goal. Smith answered eight minutes later to tie it 1-1 when Fileti scored off a pass from Nakhnikian-Weintraub. The Beavers then went on a 10-0 run to end the half with Hood tallying six of her seven total points in the first 30 minutes of play.
 
Smith scored first to start the second half at the 26:02 mark cutting the lead to nine, 11-2, however the Babson defense kept the Pioneers scoreless the rest of the half on their way to the 17-2 victory.
 
Babson will next visit Wheaton on Tuesday for a 4:30pm NEWMAC matchup while Smith will host Mount Holyoke for a 5pm NEWMAC game.
