Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Elms

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team goes looking for its second straight win with they take on local foe Elms College on Tuesday night.  Here's the skinny on the Blazers and Pioneers.

Last Meeting: September 15, 2010.  Smith whitewashed the Blazers, winning by the biggest margin of the year, 7-0.  Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) scored on a penalty stroke, and Nia Spooner (Bronx, N.Y./Fieldston School), Lena von Schorlemer (Frankfurt, Germany/European School of Frankfurt), Alexa DeJesus (Somerset, Mass./Somerset), and Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) were also amongst the goals.

Smith Overview:  The Pioneers broke into the win column on Saturday in a big way, beating Bay Path College 12-1 in a record setting day.  Stein set a new school record for goals in a game (6) and points in a game (13), and the 12 goals set a new record as well.  DeJesus tied a school record with three assists.

Elms Overview:
The Blazers are looking for their first win of the season, having fallen on the road in each of
their first two contests.  Tatiana Frizzell has scored the lone goal of the season for Elms.

Smith Player To Watch:  Alexa DeJesus (Somerset, Mass./Somerset).  The sophomore has two goals to go with three assist on the young season, good for second most on the team.

Did you know?
Smith and Elms met twice last year - in addition to the above mentioned game, they also met in the first round of the Betty Richey tournament at Vassar.  Smith won 3-0.
