Game Preview: Volleyball vs. Wellesley

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College volleyball team kicks off New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a visit from Wellesley College on Tuesday night.  Here's how the Blue and the Pioneers match up.

Last Meeting: September 14, 2010.  Wellesley took a 3-0 win over Smith, winning 19-25, 18-25, 22-25.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) led the way with eight kills and eight digs.

Last Smith Win: September 17, 2005.  Smith took a three set game from the Blue, winning 30-27, 30-28, 30-16, to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Smith Overview: The Pioneers swept a tri-match from Curry College and Elms College, winning both matches by 3-0 scores.  With the wins, the Pioneers improved to 3-0, to equal their total wins from all of 2010. 

Wellesley Overview:  The Blue are 4-2 this year, with the most recent of those being a 3-0 win over Emmanuel College at the Brandeis Invitational. 

Smith Player to Watch:
Blair Bell (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberly).  A junior, Bell is tied for the team lead with six service aces, and leads the team with 25 digs. 

Wellesley Player to Watch: Amanda Duritsch.  A senior, Duristch leads the team in kills and is second in hitting percentage. 

DId you know?  The odds are Smith and Wellesley will meet again in the regular season - both teams are schedule to play at the Seven Sisters Championship and the Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament.
