NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team (0-2, 0-2 NEWMAC) will look to get into the win column for the first time this season when they play host to Babson College (6-0, 2-0 NEWMAC). Today's game is an official USTA Take A Kid To The Game Event. There will be a hitting clinic, balloons, and prizes from 12:30 to 1 p.m. precdeding the match. This match will be played indoors, at Smith's Indoor Track and Tennis Facility.
Last Meeting: October 2, 2010 - Babson took a 6-3 decision from Smith, and the match was closer than that score would indicate.
Nikki Anderson (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) and
Eunice Zhao (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) won at No. 2 and No 6 singles, respectively, and Anderson and
Maggie Steiner (Madison, Conn./Academy of Our Lady of Mercy) earned a point at No. 2 doubles.
Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville So.) was unlucky not to grab another point at No. 1 for Smith, losing in three sets.
Last Smith Win: September 16, 2006 - Smith earned their first win of the season with a 5-4 win over Babson. The teams would meet agaiin the the NEWMAC quarterfinals, and Smith would win the same score.
Smith Overview: As noted, Smith will be looking for their first win of the year. The Pioneers have opened with as tough a NEWMAC schedule as possible - MIT, conference semi-finalists a year ago, and defending champion Wheaton on the road.
Babson Overview: The Beavers have won all six of their matches this year, including conference wins over Springfield and Mount Holyoke. Babson has also knocked off Roger Williams, Nichols, Colby-Sawyer, and Emerson.
Smith Player To Watch: Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville So.). A senior and co-captain, Inskeep plays at No. 4 for Smith so far this year, but plays at No. 1 doubles with
Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton).
Babson Player To Watch: Rebecca Stone. Stone has played in three different singles positions this year, and is undefeated in all of them.
