NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The tennis teams of Smith College (0-3, 0-3 NEWMAC) and Mount Holyoke College (1-5, 0-3 NEWMAC) will be looking for their first NEWMAC wins of the season when they meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27.
Last Meeting: April 10, 2011 - at the Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Wellesley, the Lyons bested the Pioneers by a 5-0 count. The match was memorable in particular because of the battle at No. 1 singles between
Rachel Canfora (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) and Nahree Han. Han won the match, but with some effort, winning 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-0).
Last Smith Win: October 24, 2009 - Smith defeated Mount Holyoke 5-3 to advance to the semifinals of the NEWMAC tournament.
Clair Oblamski (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East), and Ally Hawkins picked up singles victories, and Smith swept all three doubles matches to claim the win.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers have struggled this season, winning just one point in their first three contests.
Mount Holyoke Overview: After winning their first match of the season, Mount Holyoke has lost five in a row, including all three of their NEWMAC matches. The Lyons' lone win came against St. Joseph (Conn.) in their opener on September 9.
