Game Preview: Volleyball vs. WPI

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College volleyball team (5-6, 2-2 NEWMAC) can get back to .500 with a win over NEWMAC foe WPI (10-5, 1-3 NEWMAC) on Tuesday night. 


Last Meeting: Smith ended the 2011 season with a 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 15-25) loss to the Engineers.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) led Smith with 13 kills.

Last Smith Win: Smith took a four set victory over the Engineers on October 6, 2009.

Smith Overview: This will be the first action in a week for Smith, who took a 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-14, 27-25) decision over Wheaton College in their last game.  As mentioned, Smith could get back .500 with a win tonight - the Pioneers haven't been at that mark this late in the season since 2007.

WPI Overview:  The Engineers have won four of five, incuding a close match against league leading Wellesley.  Three of the four sets in the match against the Blue were decided by four points or less. 

Smith Player to Watch: Becca Alexander (Powell, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), playing as a first year senior is second on the team with 11 solo blocks and 16 block assists.

WPI Player to Watch:  Kerrin Beovich is second in the NEWMAC in hitting at a .375 clip.

Did you know? Smith has outscored opponents cumulatively in every set this season, except the fifth set.
