NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team lost their fourth consecutive match, falling 9-0 to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference foe Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon.
The Lyons are now 5-1 overall, and 3-1 in the NEWMAC. Smith is now 0-4 overall and against NEWMAC foes.
In doubles play, Smith's No. 1 tandem of
Bayla Weick (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity) and
Haruka Shimoto (Tokyo, Japan/International School of the Sacred Heart) to Alexandra Marlow and Lyndsay Cooke by an 8-1 score.
Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) and
Kyle Gouchoe-Hanas (Durham, N.C./Carolina Friends) lost to Morgan Bell and Sarah Crom at No. 2 by the same score.
Jana Chan (San Francisco, Calif./The Bay School) and Lindsay Roth were Smith's No. 3 team, and were defeated by Caroline DiNicola and Jesse Boggis 8-2.
Wheaton captured all six singles matches in straight sets. Weick lost to Cooke at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1, and
Seema Samawi (Damascus, Syria/King's Academy) lost at No. 2 to Marlowe, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3 Shimoto was beaten by Bell by a 6-1, 6-2 count, while Gouchoe-Hanas lost to Crom 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. DiNcola toppled Ashley Burke 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and Lindsay Roth was beaten by Boggis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Smith will continue NEWMAC play with a visit to Mount Holyoke on October 9 at 3 p.m. Wheaton will host Colby College on October 7 at 11 a.m.
