NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (1-0) will make its home debut against Middlebury College (1-1) on Tuesday evening. Smith will play the Panthers for the first time in five years.
Last Meeting: Smith dropped to 2-6 with an 83-51 loss to the Panthers on December 8. 2007.
Last Smith Win: Smith has never defeated Middlebury. The Panthers lead the all-time series 2-0.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers opened the season with a resounding 90-62 win over Roger Williams University on Saturday evening.
Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) led five Smith players in double-figures with 17 points, while
Amanda Zakoske (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School),
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth), and
Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) each added 10, and
Bethany Claps (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Acad.) chipped in 10 off the bench.
Middlebury Overview: The Panthers broke into the win column with a 59-48 triumph over Colby-Sawyer College in the consolation game of the UMass-Boston tournament on Sunday. Tracy Borsinger led Middlebury with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Smith Player to Watch: Quattrocchi not only established a new career high with 15 points against Roger Williams, but added eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Middlebury Player to Watch: Senior captain Borsinger was the only player to average double-digit scoring a year ago, ranking in the top 15 in the NESCAC at 10.3 points per game.
