NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team swept the final five singles positions in a 7-2 win over Curry College to open the spring season on Saturday morning. Smith improves to 4-5 overall, while Curry falls to 7-7.
Curry picked up a point at No. 1 when Megan Mulrooney edged
Gianna Teague (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) in a third set, winning 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.
Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) edged out Emily Mongello 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2, and
Bayla Weick (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity) beat Lauren Chuha 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3.
Allie Ryan (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central ) picked up a win at No. 4, defeating Kathleen Rush 6-3, 2-6, 10-7, and
Julia Signell (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth Academy) beat Kate Johnson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5.
Grace McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass./La Salle Academy) finished up singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Devin Curley at No. 6.
Curry picked up their other point when Mulrooney and Mongello beat Teague and Dubin 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, but Smith finished the match with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. At No. 2, Weick and McKay-Corkum beat Chuha and Johnson 8-4, and Ryan and Signell beat Curley and Elizabeth Zarkedes 8-3 at No. 3.
Smith will continue spring play on Saturday, facing off against Bates at Mount Holyoke on March 3 at 3 p.m.
