Game Preview: Lacrosse vs. Western New England

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Fresh off a season opening win, the Smith College lacrosse team (1-0) will try to win consecutive games for the first time since 2010 when they travel to Western New England University (1-2) on Saturday afternoon.


Last Meeting: Western New England upended Smith with an 18-3 win on March 31, 2011.  Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes), MK Pasini (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley), and Alayna Liptak (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) found the net for Smith.

Last Smith Win:  The Pioneers scored a 23-1 win over Western New England on April 16, 2001.

Smith Overview: Smith opened the season with a 21-12 triumph over Nichols College on Thursday afternoon.  Fileti scored a career high seven goals, while Becky Bracken (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) and Mckenzie Hessel (Portland, Ore./Wilson) each added five.  Alina Pechacek (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) tied a career high 14 saves.

Western New England Overview:  ECAC Champions in 2011, Western New England has lost two straight after a season opening win over Manhattanville.  The Golden Bears have since fallen to Springfield College (17-9) and RPI (14-5).

Smith Player to Watch:  Hessel impressed on her collegiate debut, adding four assists to her five goals.

Western New England Player to Watch: Jessica Scannapeico has scored seven goals in the first three games of the year.

Did you know? In 2010, Smith won three straight games, with wins over Norwich (9-5), Elms (17-1), and Fitchburg State (13-10).
