Game Preview: Lacrosse vs. Albright

March 19, 2012

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College lacrosse team will conclude its four game road trip with a pair of contests in Reading, Pa. over Spring Break.  The first matchup for the Pioneers (1-2) is against Albright College (3-4).  Both teams will be attempting to snap two game losing streaks.

Last Meeting:  This is the first meeting between the schools.  This is Albright's first year fielding a varsity lacrosse program.

Smith Overview:  Smith has lost two in a row by a combined six goals, after a season opening win over Nichols.  Most recently, the Pioneers held a 9-6 halftime lead against SUNY-New Paltz, but could not make it stand in a 18-16 defeat.  The goals continue to flow for Smith, who has scored 51 in three games - an average of 17 per contest.  As a comparison, Smith scored 124 goals in 15 games in 2011 - an average of 8.3 per game.

Albright Overview: The Lions have alternated wins and losses in their five games this season, with the last being a 15-8 defeat to the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.  Albright never led in the game, falling behind by as many as seven goals.

Smith Player to Watch: Junior goalie Alina Pechacek (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) has made double-digit saves in every game this year, including a career high 18 against SUNY-New Paltz.

Albright Player to Watch: Kim Harkins has put the ball in the net 28 times in 2012.
