Becky Bracken (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) scored seven goals and set up two more as the Smith College lacrosse team rolled past Albright College 25-6 in the opener of their Spring Break trip on Monday afternoon.
Mckenzie Hessel (Portland, Ore./Wilson) scored five and
MK Pasini (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) four as Smith snapped a two game losing skid.
Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) finished with three goals for Smith, while six other Pioneers found the net once.
Smith (2-2) scored the first four goals of the game, the first by Pasini and the next three by Bracken before Albright (3-5) got on the board with goals from Meghan Wilson and Kim Harkins cut the lead in half at the 22:20 mark. The Pioneers scored 12 of the next 16 goals in the game to take a 16-5 halftime lead, as Bracken, Pasini, Estes, and Hessel netted twice, while
Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes),
Jessica Lillquist (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme), and
Kate Detrick (Petaluma, Calif./Sonoma Academy) also found the back of the net.
Albright scored the first goal of the second half, but would not score again in the game as Smith netted the final nine with tallies from Hessel, Bracken, Pasini, Estes, Sofia Nahknikian-Weintraub, and the first collegiate goals for
Angela Schondek (Raynham, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) and
Sierra Brimhall (Salt Lake City, Utah/Judge Memorial).
Alina Pechacek (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) was called upon to make eight saves in net for Smith, while her counterpart for Albright, Arlena Diep, made seven.
Smith will conclude the trip with a visit to Alvernia University on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
