NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College lacrosse team (3-3) can match their season win total of a year ago with a victory over Westfield State University (1-3) on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers and Owls get underway at 4:30 p.m.
Last Meeting: Smith
fell to Westfield State 17-7 on March 29, 2011.
Becky Bracken (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) netted three goals for Smith and
Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes) added two more.
Last Smith Win: The Pioneers led 9-5 at halftime en route to a 14-13 win over the Owls on April 14, 2009. Fileti found the net three times.
Smith Overview: Smith won their first league game in four years with a 17-15 win over MIT on Saturday afternoon. Fileti scored six goals and set up two, Bracken had three, and
MK Pasini (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley),
Jessica Lillquist (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme), and
Petru Bester (Deep River, Conn./Valley Regional) each added a pair.
Westfield State Overview: Thanks to a postponement in the first game of the year, Westfield State has started 2012 by playing six straight games away from home - today's game being the fifth in that set. Despite a 1-3 record, each of their four games thus far has been decided by three goals or less.
Smith Player to Watch: Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) has scored in every game but one this year, including five goals in her last three games.
Westfield State Player to Watch: Carly Keeley has scored 13 times with five assists, 14 ground balls, and 18 draw controls.
Did you know? Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes) can become the fifth player to reach the 100 goal mark in program history with six more goals - a mark she's already hit in three different games this year.
