SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Connecticut College on Saturday, by an 8-1 score that saw Smith lose the top four singles matches in tiebreakers. The match was played at Mount Holyoke College.
The Camels swept all three doubles matches. Sara Krivoshik and Jen Herbert beat
Gianna Teague (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and
Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) at No. 1 by a score of 8-2, while Brittney Cangemi and Brittany Badik edged
Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville So.) and
Clair Oblamski (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) 8-5 at No. 2. Madeline Swanson and Monica Rohrbach completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over
Allie Ryan (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central ) and
Julia Signell (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth Academy) at No. 3.
Smith would battle back in singles play, as Oblamski earned Smith's only point at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Swanson. But the Pioneers could not get a tiebreaker to go their way, as Teague fell to Krivoshik 5-7, 6-5, 10-12 at No. 1 singles, and Dubin lost to Herbert 5-7, 6-1, 6-10 at No. 2.
Inskeep was beaten by Cangemi 2-6, 6-3, 6-10, at the No. 3 spot, and Badik edged
Bayla Weick (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity) 7-5, 4-6, 5-10 at No. 4. Rohrbach also got a win for Conn. College at No. 6, with a 6-3, 6-4 win over
Grace McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass./La Salle Academy).
Smith will next be in action at the Seven Sisters Championship, beginning on April 14 at Mount Holyoke College.
