NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The start of NEWMAC play gets underway for the Smith College volleyball team (1-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) when they travel to Babson College (4-2, 0-0 NEWMAC).

Last Meeting:  The Beavers scored a 3-1 (14-25, 25-15, 19-25, 22-25) win over Smith on September 17, 2011.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) hit .444 with 19 kills and three service aces in the match.

Last Smith Win: October 2, 2007.  Smith beat Babson on the road by a 3-0 count, winning the sets 30-28, 32-30, and 30-22.  Catharine Shafer totaled 14 kills, four service aces, and 11 digs as Smith improved to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.

Smith Overview:  The Pioneers earned their first win over the season with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 29-27) victory over Elms College on Saturday.  Smith got a fine all around effort from Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress), who totalled 12 kills, 16 assists, nine digs, and a pair of service aces.

Babson Overview: The Beavers went 2-2 at the Brandeis Invitational this past weekend, scoring victories over McDaniel College (Md.) and Emmanuel, sandwiched between a 3-1 loss to the hosts and a tough 3-2 loss to Tufts.

Smith Player to Watch:  Bethany Ashworth (North Falmouth, Mass./Bourne) has transitioned to setter, and has 34 assists in Smith's first two contests.

Babson Player to Watch: Mary Donahue has 91 kills in six matches.
