Game Preview: Tennis vs. Wellesley

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team (0-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) finally gets to take the court when they open the 2012 fall season against Wellesley College (1-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon. 

Last Meeting: The Blue scored a 9-0 win over Smith on October 8, 2011.  Smith came closest to a win at No. 1 doubles, where Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville So.) and Clair Oblamski (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) fell 8-6.

Last Smith Win: Smith won their fourth straight match with a 7-2 win over Wellesley on October 11, 2003.

Smith Overview: Smith opens up the season with a lot of new faces, returning just two players who took part in conference matches in 2011.  Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) played at No. 1 singles through the conference season last year, while Bayla Weick (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity) was Smith's No. 3 player.

Wellesley Overview:  The Blue hit the court for the first time in two weeks, after opening the season with a 6-3 win over Endicott on September 1.  Wellesley has won six of the last eight NEWMAC tournament championships.

Did you know? Smith last won the NEWMAC tournament in 1988.
