NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College soccer team (4-3) will have a stern challenge on hand when they take on undefeated Westfield State University (8-0-1) on Wednesday night. It's the third straight Smith opponent that was an NCAA participant a year ago.
Last Meeting: The Owls scored four goals in a 10 minute span in the second half to win 4-0 on September 28, 2011.
Lindsey Gregor (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast) made 12 saves in goal for Smith.
Last Smith Win: September 15, 2001 - Smith ran riot, posting a 5-0 win over the Owls to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Smith Overview: Smith had a three game winning streak ended with a 2-0 defeat at Springfield College on Saturday. The Pioneers fell behind after 12 seconds and struggled offensively, not registering a shot on goal.
Westfield State Overview: As mentioned, the Owls have yet to lose this season. The only non-win for Westfield State this season was a 2-2 tie against Castleton State in the championship game of the Rutland Herald Invitational (the same tournament Smith participated in). That has been the only game that the Owls have conceded more than one goal.
Smith Player to Watch: Olivia Mallari (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) notched her first collegiate point with an assist against Elms, and is turning into a force in midfield.
Westfield State Player to Watch: Senior Kayley Miller has scored nine goals this year, and set up seven more. She scored the winner in each of Westfield State's first four wins.
Did you know? Westfield State has won at least 15 games in three of the last four seasons.
