Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.--
Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) equalled her school records for goals in a game and points in a game as the Smith College field hockey team rolled to an 11-0 win over Bay Path College in the consolation game of the Betty Richey Invitational, hosted by Vassar College on Saturday.
Stein, who set the records of six goals in a game and 13 points in a game in this fixture last year, matched that total again as the Pioneers broke into the win column (1-2). Bay Path dropped to 0-3 with the defeat.
Stein got Smith on the board with an unassisted goal just 2:29 into the contest, and made it 2-0 12 minutes later when she put home a pass from
Alexa DeJesus (Somerset, Mass./Somerset). She then turned provider less than a minute after that, setting up
Sydney Burns (Woodbury, N.J./George School (Pa.)) for her first goal of the season, and
Sophie Demuynck (Mt. Holly, N.J./Moorestown Friends)'s goal at the 24:16 mark made it 4-0.
Stein scored twice more to put Smith up 6-0 at halftime, and Smith kept pouring it on, as goals from
Sara Mercier (Portland, Maine/McAuley),
Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth), DeJesus, and two more from Stein contributed to the final tally.
Savannah Lawson (Oak Bluffs, Mass./Martha's Vineyard) and
Abbey Fleming (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) each played a half in goal, and Fleming made one save for Smith, who outshot the Blazers 44-1. Stein and
Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) were named to the All-Tournament team.
Smith will play at home for the first time this season when they host Elms College on September 11 at 4:30 pm. Bay Path will host Roger Williams on September 12 at 3:30 pm.
