Game Preview: Basketball vs. No. 22 Babson

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The road trip concludes for the Smith College basketball team (12-1, 7-0 NEWMAC) when the Pioneers travel to No. 22 Babson College (12-1, 7-0 NEWMAC), in a battle of the final two teams undefeated in league play.


Last Meeting:  The Beavers and Pioneers met in the championship game of the NEWMAC tournament a season ago, with Babson claiming the title for the fourth straight year, 74-51.

Last Smith Win:  Smith upset the Beavers 65-58 on January 24, 2009.  Anna Veltri scored 26 points, connecting on 7-of-14 shots, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc as Smith improved to 8-8. 

Smith Overview: The Pioneers extended their school record win streak to 10 games with a 95-90 overtime triumph over Clark University on Thursday night. Smith let a double-digit second half lead slip away, but recovered in the extra period to beat the Cougars for the fifth straight time. 

Babson Overview:  The Beavers have been the NEWMAC's top program over the last four+ seasons, winning 72 straight league games and capturing the last four tournament titles.  Babson's only loss this season is to No. 1 ranked Depauw University at a tournament in Puerto Rico.

Smith Player to Watch: Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) scorched the nets against Clark, pouring in a career high 32 points and shooting 6-for-10 from three point range.

Babson Player to Watch:  Senior Sarah Collins leads the NEWMAC in scoring (17.5 ppg), rebounding (13.2 rpg), and is second in field goal percentage (52.4%)

Did you know? While Babson's Collins is the league's leading scorer, Smith has three of the top six in Solis (third, 15.1 ppg), Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) (fourth, 13.5 ppg), and Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) (six, 13.2 ppg).
