Game Preview: Volleyball vs. Wellesley

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College volleyball team (16-6, 4-3 NEWMAC) welcomes a recent opponent when regionally ranked Wellesley College (23-2, 7-0 NEWMAC) on Tuesday evening.

Last Meeting:  Smith and Wellesley met just nine days ago at the Seven Sisters Championship, with the Blue taking a 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 18-25, 18-25) win on October 13.

The Series: Wellesley has won 50 of the 75 meetings all-time between these two schools, including 15 in a row.

Fast Facts: The Blue have won 11 in a row...Wellesley's only losses are a five set decision to No. 24 Roger Williams and a 3-1 loss to No. 2 Emory...The Blue have won 17 straight regular season NEWMAC games dating back to 2011...Wellesley has finished as runner-up in the last two conference tournament championship games...Smith has won six of seven, and has its highest win total since 2007...Bethany Ashworth (North Falmouth, Mass./Bourne) moved into ninth place on Smith's all-time assist list...the senior needs 79 more assists to reach 1,000 for her career...Smith is 17-18 against Wellesley all-time at home.

Next Up:  Both teams will take part in the Volleyball Hall of Fame tournament.  Smith faces Trinity on Friday night, and Westfield State and Brandeis on Saturday.  Wellesley will play Amherst on Friday, followed by meetings with Bowdoin and Williams on Saturday.
