Game Preview: Volleyball vs. Framingham State (ECAC Quarterfinal)

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College volleyball team makes its 11th appearance in the ECAC Tournament when the Pioneers (21-8) play host to Framingham State University (26-7) in a rematch of a game played on September 28.


Last Meeting: These two met in a tri-match at MIT on September 28, where Smith came away with a 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-11) win.

The Series: The meeting on September 28 was the first meeting between the two teams; hence, Smith leads, 1-0.

Fast Facts: Framingham State fell in the MASCAC Championship finals to Westfield State University...the Rams also made the ECAC Tournament in 2011, where they played another NEWMAC team, Coast Guard...freshman Alycia Rackliffe has piled up 371 kills and is hitting .331 for the year...Smith is back in the ECAC tournament for the first time since 2007...Smith won their only ECAC title in 1997, when the Pioneers defeated Elmira, Amherst, and Williams...Smith was also runner-up in 1989...The Pioneers were knocked out of the NEWMAC tournament by MIT on November 5...it was the 600th match for head coach Fran Vandermeer...Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) needs 14 kills to reach 400 for the season...

Up Next: The winner will advance to the semifinals, held at a site to be determined.
