NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College volleyball team will take on an opponent from earlier this season for the second straight game when the Pioneers (22-8) play Salve Regina University (26-4) in the semifinals of the ECAC New England Tournament at 11 am on Saturday morning.
Last Meeting: The Seahawks escaped with a 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 13-15) win over Smith on October 3, 2013.
The Series: That meeting in early October was the first meeting between the schools.
Fast Facts: The Seahawks beat Emerson in the quarterfinals of the ECAC tournament on Wednesday night...Salve was upset by Endicott in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament...The Seahawks are 2-2 against NEWMAC opponents this year...this is the fourth straight trip to the ECAC tournament for Salve Regina, who reached the semifinals in 2012...Smith is back in the ECAC semis for the first time since 2004...a win would give Smith 23 for the year, the most since 1997 (incidentally, that was the last year Smith won the ECAC Tournament)...The Pioneers are 7-1 on neutral courts this year... Smith is 1-2 against Commonwealth Coast Conference teams...
