NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College volleyball team (20-7, 5-4 NEWMAC) can improve their playoff positioning with a road win against Wheaton College (14-16, 4-5 NEWMAC) on Saturday.


Last Meeting: Smith dropped the first set, but swept the next three for a 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-14, 27-25)

The Series: Smith leads 26-13, winning 11 of the last 14 meetings.

Fast Facts: The Lyons have lost six straight...Wheaton has won just two sets during that stretch...this is the first home game for Wheaton since October 15...sophomore Arianne Creighton has a team high 210 kills...Wheaton has increased their win total from four to 10 to 14 since 2011...Smith clinched their first playoff berth since 2009 with a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke on Tuesday night...The Pioneers have won four straight and eight of 10...Smith is 8-4 against Wheaton at Wheaton...Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) has 364 kills this season, the fifth highest single season total in school history...she could move into fourth place with nine more kills, surpassing the 372 she had in 2011.

Playoff Permutations:  Smith is in the NEWMAC tournament, but could finish as high as the No. 5 seed with a win and a Coast Guard loss at MIT.  If both Smith and Coast Guard win, Smith will be the No. 6 seed, while if Smith loses, the Pioneers will claim the No. 7 seed.  Wheaton needs to win to clinch a playoff berth, but will be in with a loss if Clark falls to Emerson.
