Game Preview: Lacrosse vs. Westfield State

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College lacrosse team (1-5) will resumes the New England portion of their schedule with a trip to Westfield State University (2-2) on Tuesday. It's the final game before conference play begins for both teams.


Last Meeting:  Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes) scored a career high eight goals, becoming the fifth player in program history to reach the 100 goal mark in a 17-14 Smith win on March 27, 2012.

Smith Overview:  As noted, the Pioneers are returning to New England after a 1-2 trip to the Northwest.  Smith earned their first win of the season with a 22-5 romp over Linfield, then fell to Pacific by a score of 21-11.  The Pioneers ended their trip with a close 17-12 loss to the University of Puget Sound.

Westfield State Overview:  The Owls are coming off a 14-6 loss to Keene State College on Sunday, after a trip to Florida that saw them pick up their first two wins of the season.  Westfield State knocked off the University of Rochester (8-6) and Colby-Sawyer College (10-3).

Smith Player to Watch: Angela Schondek (Raynham, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy), in her first year as a starter, leads the team with 14 ground balls, and scored her first goal of the year against Puget Sound.

Westfield State Player to Watch: Goalie Mimi Khampaeng has made 36 saves in four games this season.

Did you know? Smith has had six players break the 100 goal mark, while Westfield State has had five.  Smith's all-time leading scorer is Alexa Wilder '99, who finished with 186 goals and 62 assists for 248 points, while WSU's all-time leader is Laura Chiricosta, who netted 209 goals and and 98 assists for 307 points.
