POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.--The Smith College tennis team wrapped up the Seven Sisters Championship against Bryn Mawr College and Mount Holyoke College on Sunday.
Bryn Mawr
Smith picked up their first point at doubles, where the tandem of
Tessy Lopez (Pomona, Calif./Ganesha) and
Carly Melillo (Chester, Conn./Valley) forged a comeback win over Tirsa Delate and Rachel Genovese at No. 2. After falling in the first set 4-6, Lopez and Melillio battled back to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-2.
Vivien Chen and Kendall Baller beat
Kyle Gouchoe-Hanas (Durham, N.C./Carolina Friends) and
Andrea Tanco (Veracruz, Mexico/Li Po Chun (Hong Kong)) 6-3, 6-4 in the other doubles match.
At singles, Bryn Mawr took two matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Jenny Voegl beat
Seema Samawi (Damascus, Syria/King's Academy) at No. 1, while Caty Austin beat Gouchoe-Hanas by the same score at No. 3. In between, Melina Koukotchos beat
Jinan Martiuk (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview).
Mount Holyoke
The Lyons won by a 5-0 score - Mount Holyoke notched wins at all three singles matches, with Nahree Han beating Samawi, Sarah Anischik beating Martiuk, and Eman Malik over
Kathryn Dernbach (Naples, Fla./Community School).
Mount Holyoke also won at doubles, with AnnElizabeth Konkel and Margaux Holloshutz defeating Gouchoe-Hanas and Tanco, and My-Linh Nguyen and Michelle Cai winning over Melillo and Lopez.
