Game Preview: Lacrosse vs. Wellesley

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The 2013 season comes to an end for the Smith College lacrosse team (3-12, 0-5 NEWMAC) with a game against Wellesley College (6-7, 1-4 NEWMAC) on Friday afternoon.  Before the game, Smith will honor Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) and Sabine Milger (Wilhelmshaven, Germany/Gymnasium am Muehlenweg) for their contributions to the program.

Last Meeting: Wellesley eliminated Smith from the NEWMAC tournament with a 19-14 win on April 25, 2012.  

Last Smith Win: Smith has not beaten Wellesley since a 10-8 triumph over the Blue in the semifinals of the NEW8 tournament on April 28, 1994.

Smith Overview: The Pioneers lost their fifth straight with a 17-11 defeat to UMass-Dartmouth on Thursday.  Smith closed the deficit to 7-6 at halftime after having been down by as many as four, but could not get closer than two in the second half.

Wellesley Overview:  The Blue have lost three straight, including a 16-13 defeat to MIT on Tuesday that eliminated Wellesley from the NEWMAC playoff race.  

Smith Player to Watch:  
Seniors Bradley and Milger, who were also teammates on the Smith swimming and diving squad, will try to end the year on a high note with a victory today.






Wellesley Player to Watch:  Sophomore Claire Canty has scored 22 goals and setup 20 more.

Did you know? Jessica Lillquist (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) sits in third place in the NEWMAC in goals heading into the final day of the regular season.  Since 2008, Smith has never had someone lead the league in goals.
