NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College lacrosse team will play their first home game in over three weeks when the Pioneers (3-7, 0-1 NEWMAC) host Wheaton College (4-4, 2-0 NEWMAC) on Saturday. It's the first of four straight conference games for Smith.
Last Meeting: These two teams met twice last year, the most recent of which was a 20-5 win for Wheaton in the championship game of the ECAC tournament on May 13, 2012.
Last Smith Win: Seeded sixth, Smith upset No. 3 seeded Wheaton 10-7 in the quarterfinals of the NEWMAC tournament on April 25, 2007. The Pioneers grabbed a 7-3 lead at halftime and never looked back to advance to the semifinals.
Smith Overview: Smith won their second straight game with a 13-10 win over Nichols College on Thursday evening.
Jessica Lillquist (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) and
Rachel Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) combined for 11 goals, as Smith broke open a 4-4 game at halftime.
Wheaton Overview: The Lyons has a two game winning streak snapped with a 10-9 defeat to Gordon College on April 4. Wheaton had posted two conference wins previous to that, with victories over MIT and Springfield.
Smith Player to Watch: Silveria needed only five attempts on net to get her five goals, and has at least one goal and one assist in three straight games.
Wheaton Player to Watch: Allie Bush has a team high 12 assists to go along with five goals for the Lyons.
