Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Visiting Wheaton College (Mass.) scored the first five goals of the second half en route to a 13-5 win over host Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
Smith falls to 3-8, and 0-2 in the NEWMAC, while Wheaton improves to 5-4, with a 3-0 NEWMAC ledger.
The Lyons' Allie Bush opened the scoring at the 28:02 mark, and Wheaton made it 2-0 when Bush set up Amy Moreira. Mia Cambi gave Wheaton a third before
Petru Bester (Deep River, Conn./Valley Regional) got Smith on the board with her 19th goal of the year at the 17:07 mark.
Christina Vara (Hudson, Mass./Hudson)'s first of the match but the lead to 4-2 with 14:05 to play, but goals from Brook Sabol and Jenna Tewksbury gave Wheaton a 6-2 lead at halftime.
Five minutes into the second half, Wheaton got another from Melanie Sharick, and would also get the next four, with Sabol scoring twice and Cambi and Moreira also finding the net.
Jessica Lillquist (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) pulled one back for Smith with 11:02 remaining, followed up by
Rachel Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable)'s woman-down goal with 4:22 to play that made it 11-4. Wheaton added goals from Mills and Ava Myette before Vara capped the scoring with 1:02 to play.
Sabol led all players with three goals and one assist, while Mills, Cambi, and Moreira each had two goals.
Savannah Lawson (Oak Bluffs, Mass./Martha's Vineyard) tallied four saves in the Smith net, while Wheaton counterpart Katy Ananian made six.
Both teams will be in action on Tuesday, April 9, continuing NEWMAC play. Smith will travel to Springfield for a 4 p.m. start, while Wheaton will be at Wellesley, beginning at 4:30.
