NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team fell to Connecticut College by a score of 9-0 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Smith to 3-12, while Connecticut College improves to 3-5.
In doubles action, the Pioneers' No. 1 tandem of
Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) and
Tessy Lopez (Pomona, Calif./Ganesha) fell to Alexis DiTomassi and Jen Herbert, 8-3. The pairing of
Kyle Gouchoe-Hanas (Durham, N.C./Carolina Friends) and
Andrea Tanco (Veracruz, Mexico/Li Po Chun (Hong Kong)) lost to Brittney Cangemi and Shivani Sinha 8-1 at the No. 2 position. At No. 3,
Carly Melillo (Chester, Conn./Valley) and Victoria von Saucken were defeated by Charlotte Marcoux and Sara Krivoshik.
In singles play, Dubin fell to DiTomassi by a score of 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, and at No. 2, Gouchoe-Hanas was beaten 6-0, 6-1 by Hebert.
Seema Samawi (Damascus, Syria/King's Academy) was knocked off by Krivoshik 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, and Lopez lost to Marcoux 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
Tanco was bested by Cangemi 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot, and Natalia Smith beat Melillo 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
Smith will return to action at the Seven Sisters Championship on April 13, hosted by Vassar College. Smith opens up the tournament against the host Brewers at 12:30 pm, followed by a 3:30 pm matchup against Wellesley College.
