Game Preview: Lacrosse vs. Springfield

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College lacrosse team (3-8, 0-2 NEWMAC) gets back on the road when the Pioneers make the short trip to Springfield College (6-5, 1-2 NEWMAC) on Tuesday.


Last Meeting: The Pride knocked off Smith 21-8 on April 17, 2012.

Last Smith Win: Smith netted a 13-11 win over the Pride on April 1, 1999.  Springfield got a little revenge with a 12-10 win over Smith in the semifinals of the NEWMAC tournament on April 22.

Smith Overview:  The Pioneers had a two game winning streak ended with a 13-5 defeat to Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon.  Christina Vara (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) led the way with a pair of goals.

Springfield Overview:  Springfield ended a four game losing skid with a 9-8 NEWMAC win over Babson College last Saturday.  The defending conference tournament champions, the Pride had lost the four games by a combined 12 goals.

Smith Player to Watch: Reigning NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week Rachel Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) has nine goals in her last three games.

Springfield Player to Watch: Goalie Anne Vesprille leads the league on goals against average (7.96) and is third in save percentage (47.0).

Did you know? Smith boasts three of the top 15 scorers in the league in Jessica Lillquist (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) (3rd), Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) (13th), and Silveria (15th).  Springfield's top scorer, Connie Nielsen, ranks 25th.
